Other Information:

Robert was educated at Aberdeen Grammar School and at Aberdeen University, qualifying M.B. in 1904. After he graduated he became assistant to a doctor in Cumberland, then later practised at Insch and Forgue. He joined the R.A.M.C. on 29th September 1917, and was taken on as dispenser. He was 35 years and 91 days old at the time. He was posted to 8 Coy, then on the 2nd October went to 8th Training Battalion. On 14th January 1918, he was posted to R.A. & Tank Corps Command Depot at Hipswell Camp, Catterich, Yorks. Robert was admitted into hospital on 20th March 1918, suffering with influenza. He told staff there that he had applied for a commission within the R.A.M.C. - he was discharded on 14th March. On 10th April 1918 he was admitted to hospital again complaining of being run down and of having some pain in his stomach. On examination it was discovered that he was extremely anaemic - his diagnosis was 'Debility'. Robert was complaining of abdominal pain on the 13th May but was told by the doctor at 11.30 a.m. not to take anything. He was last seen at 12.40 by a staff nurse who spoke to him about his pain. The staff nurse left the ward for a while and noticed that Robert was not in his bed when he returned. He went to look for him and found that Robert had taken his own life. Robert was the husband of Elizabeth Alexandria Wright of 158 Mid Stocket Road, Aberdeen.
