Henry first enlisted on 1st May 1915. He was 20 years and 2 months old, and and a labourer by trade. On 4th May was posted to the 16th (Service) Battalion of the Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment) - Service No. 25718. On 15th December 1915 he was transferred to the 19th (Reserve) Battalion of the Sherwood Foresters but he was discharged on 6th April 1916 as being medically unfit for further military service. On 30th July 1917 he had another medical and on 18th August 1917 was called up for service, initially joining the depot of the Sherwood Foresters (Service No. 92552), but on the 21st August he was posted to the First Training Battalion, R.A.M.C. On 2nd October 1917 he was transferred to 9th Coy. On 27th October 1918 he was admitted to Bricket House, VAD Hospital, St. Albans and died there from influenza and bronchial pneumonia. Henry was the son of William and Elizabeth Hardy of 23 Society Place, Derby. (Information researched and kindly provided by Chris Ludlam)
