Other Information:

William enlisted on 29th October 1915. He was 38 years and 2 months old, and a tobacco spinner (tobacconist) by trade. He joined the RAMC Depot at Aldershot and on 11th November 1915 was posted to ‘O’ Company. ‘O’ Coy spent some time at Eastbourne and then moved to No 12 Camp, Longbridge Deverill. On the 15th February 1916 he was found in the camp latrine bleeding badly from a throat wound. He was admitted to Sutton Veny Military Hospital where he died on 12th March of septic pneumonia. An inquest was held at the hospital where it was determined that William had died of septic pneumonia following a wound to the throat and that he took his own life by cutting his throat with a razor. He was the son of William (d.1909) and Mary Jane Nicholson (d.1921); and the husband of Ann (nee Shorrock). They had four children, May Agnes, William, Robert and Ethel. They lived at 13 Middle Lane, Fellside, Kendal. [Information researched and kindly provided by Chris Ludlam]
