Other Information:William enlisted on 23rd August 1915. He was 17 years and 5 months old, was a sheep Shen Maker by trade and was living at 113 Freedom Road, Walkley, Sheffield at the time. He served with the 3rd Northern General Hospital, Sheffield, then on 17th June 1917 he embarked at Southampton. He disembarked at Havre on the 18th, then embarked again for Rouen, arriving on the 22nd he joined Cyclists Base Depot. On 29th June 1917, William was posted to serve with the 18th Field Ambulance, in the field. William was the son of George Smith of Walkley, Sheffield.
