Michael enlisted into the R.A.M.C. (T.F.) on 21st August 1915 and was embodied into the 3rd Northern General Hospital. He was 43 years and 8 months old, was a Commercial Traveller by trade; and was living at 4 Victoria Street, Stocksbridge, Sheffield at the time. He served abroad with No 2 General Hospital. He was appointed acting Corporal, with pay, on 7th June 1917 then reverted to his original rank of Private on 1st May 1920. He died in the Wharncliffe War Hospital from cancer of the glands of the neck.
