In 1911, Frederick was 17 years old and a Mechanic by trade. On 14th August 1915, The Lurgan Mail reported: The funeral of the late Private Fred Mulholland, R.A.M.C., youngest son of Mary and the late Robert Mulholland, Lugan, whose death occurred on Friday last at the U.V.F. Hospital, Belfast, took place on Saturday afternoon, when the remains were interred in the cemetery in his native town. Deceased had been attached to the Ulster Division, and had eight months' service when he was laid aside with an illness which, notwithstanding every skill and attention proved fatal. Private Mulholland was a smart, promising young soldier, and was a universal favourite. He was buried with full military honours, the funeral party being provided by the members of the Royal Irish Rifles and the band by the 4th Batt. R.I.F.
