Walter had previously served as Pte 9546 with the 3rd Bn. West Yorkshire Regiment. He transferred to the R.A.M.C. on 15th January 1918, and was with the 1st Training Battalion, R.A.M.C. in Blackpool when he was taken ill with pains in his chest and shortness of breath. He was transferred to Army Reserve on 12th June 1918. Son of Albert and Annie Lindley of Sheffield.
