Other Information:

Arthur received his medical education at St Thomas’s Hospital, qualifying M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. in 1896. He served for a while as Honorary Surgeon at the Male Lock Hospital, 91 Dean Street, London. On 27th July 1899 he joined the R.A.M.C. at the rank of Lieutenant, then saw active service in South Africa from1899 to 1902, gaining the Queen’s South African Medal with 4 clasps and the King’s South African Medal with 2 clasps. On 27th July 1902 he was promoted to the rank of Captain, then served in India 1902-1904 and 1906-1911, receiving the Indian General Service Medal with clasp for services in the North-West Frontier (India) 1908. He was then promoted to Major on 27th April 1911. Due to war being declared on 4th August 1914, Arthur embarked for France on the 9th with the headquarters of divisional formations, as Deputy Assistant Director for Medical services for the Third Division. On 1st March 1915 he gained promotion to Lieutenant Colonel, and became a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George on 14th January 1916. On 24th February 1916 he was awarded the Belgium Order of the Crown, 4th class. In November 1917, the Second Army was moved to Italy, and Arthur went with them as Assistant Director of Medical Services (Sanitation) and remained in this appointment until the end of the war. On 11th March 1918 he received the Belgium War Cross, and gained the rank Brevet Colonel on 1st January 1919. On 3rd June 1919 he became a Companion of the Order of the Bath. He returned to India 1919-1924 and 1926-1928, receiving the Indian order of the Crown (Officer) on 2nd March 1923. On 31st January 1926 he gained promoting to Colonel, and took up the office of Assistant Director of Medical Services Headquarters, Rawalpindi District from 1926 to 1928. During this time, on 25th October 1927, he was awarded Order of St John of Jerusalem. He retired with pay on 3rd August 1928, and Ceased to be on the Roll of Officers on 3rd August 1931. Arthur died at Hythe, Kent.
