Other Information:Edward received his medical education at St Thomas’s Hospital, qualifying M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. in 1904. He joined the Medical Services at the rank of Lieutenant on 31st July 1905, then gained promotion to Captain on 31st January 1909. In 1913 he became a specialist in midwifery and gynaecology.
After War had been declared on 4th August 1914, Edward embarked for France with the headquarters of divisional formations, as Medical Officer for Second Army Corps. He entered the war in France on 15th August 1914. He remained in this role up until 4th March 1915. For his services he was awarded the Military Cross in the New Year Honours List. He then served in Salonika from 1915 - 1916, and on 15th October 1915 he gained promotion to the rank of Major. From 6th November 1917 to 18th February 1918 he served under the rank of acting Lieutenant Colonel, then served in North Russia 1918-1919 - towards the end of July 1918 reinforcements of medical units had began to proceed to North Russia, and Edward was appointed Assistant Director of Medical Services to the “Syren” Force, arriving at Murmansk on 7th September. From 19th February to 15th November 1919 he served under the rank of acting Colonel, during which time he was created a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George on 3rd June 1919. From 1924 to 1925 he served with the British Army of the Rhine. On 31st July 1925 he retired with pay and was granted rank of Colonel.
