Patrick received his medical educated at Dublin in the medical school of the Royal College of Surgeons, qualifying L.R.C.P. & S.I. on 5th July 1899. He joined the R.A.M.C. on 17th November, the same year, at the rank of Lieutenant. He took park in the South Africa War, 1899-1902, in the Orange River Colony, the Transvaal, and Cape Colony; took part in the actions at Paardeberg from 17th to 26th February 1900; Poplar Grove, Driefontein, Kari Siding, Vet River and Zand River, and in those around Johannesburg and Pretoria, and received the Queen’s medal with four clasps, and the King’s medal with two clasps. On 17th November 1902 he gained promotion to the rank of Captain. From South Africa, Patrick went to serve in India, staying until 1905, but returned in 1909 until 1913. During this time he gained promotion to Major on 17th August 1911. He became a specialist in ophthalmology. He served during the Great War, gaining further promotion to Lieutenant Colonel on 26th December 1917 but didn’t serve abroad. On 4th June 1917 he received the Companion Order of St Michael & St George. At the time of his death he was Senior Medical Officer at the Royal Arsenal, Woolwich. He died at Eltham.
