Other Information:Albert enlisted into the 1st Home Counties Divisional Field Ambulance, R.A.M.C., T.F. on 18th October 1910. He was 18 years and 1 month old, and was a Gardener by trade. He became one of a quota of N.C.O.’s and men, known as 'Special Reserve', who previously agreed to serve overseas in the event of a war. On 6th August 1914, he transferred from the 1st Home Counties Field Ambulance to serve with the Expeditionary Force, and marched alongside Captain Greene, and the detachment, to a field adjoining Monockton’s Mill, Sandling Road, Maidstone, which had become the mobilization headquarters of No 10 Field Ambulance. He entered the war with the 10th Field Ambulance on 23rd August 1914. On 8th February 1916 he was attached to the 1st Bn. Somerset Light Infantry.
Due to be released from the Special Reserve on 27th April 1916 on completion of his period of engagement in that category, he was sent to join Base Details in Rouen on 11th April 1916. He returned to the UK on 21st April and returned to his unit, 1st Home Counties Divisional Field Ambulance. He first posted to serve with the 4/1st Home Counties Field Ambulance, then was transferred to serve with the 2/1st Home Counties Field Ambulance the following 27th August. On 23rd January 1917 he embarked at Southampton with the unit, then disembarked in Havre the following day. He was attached to 58 Divisional Train, in the field, from 3rd February 1917 for a short period, but returned to his unit shortly after and remained with them throughout the rest of the war. He returned to the UK on 13th June 1919, and was disembodied from service on 17th July 1919. He remained on Reserve until 31st March 1920 when he was discharged from the Army.
