Henry was educated at Glenkindie Public School, at Marischal College, and at Aberdeen University, qualifying M.B. in 1906. He practiced in the Aberdare Valley for two years, and afterwards took up practice in Kentish Town, London, acting also as Clinical Assistant at the Great Northern Central Hospital and the Mount Vernon Chest Hospital. He gained a commission in the R.A.M.C. at the rank of Lieutenant on 29th April 1915, and was promoted to Captain on 29th October the same year. He was posted to serve with the 2/1st Highland Field Ambulance, entering the war in France on 2nd May 1915, he remained with them until his death. He was killed in the forenoon of the 14th, by a shell near White City, Beaumont Hamel. Col Rorie of the 1/2nd Highland Field Ambulance described him as one of the most efficient and gallant R.A.M.C. officers in the Division. Officers in his own unit wrote: "We remember his bright and cheerful disposition at all times and under any circumstances. He was always in the forefront of what was going on, helpful to everyone else and always unselfish." Henry was the son of George (a farmer) and Isabella Begg of Mains of Druminnor, Rhynie, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
