Other Information:

Charles had previously served in the Militia, from 19th March 1905. He enlisted into the R.A.M.C. on 24th April 1906. He was 18 years and 3 months old at the time. He entered the war in France with the 11th Field Ambulance. He was admitted into hospital on 15th January 1915, suffering with Bronchitis and was transferred to back to England. He was promoted to acting Lance Corporal on 11th September 1915. Charles was described as a very good nursing orderly. He died of multiple shell wounds received in action whilst serving with the 68th Field Ambulance. He was the third son of Charles and Olive Bishop of 12 Portland Terrace, Pittville. He left a widow Florrie at 25 Fairview Rd Cheltenham, she later remarried changing her name to Taylor. [Portrait photograph courtesy of John Hamblin]
