Edmund was educated at Wanganui Collegaite School, New Zealand from 1900 - 1905, and qualified M.R.C.S. (Eng.), L.R.C.P. (Lond.) in 1912 at University College Hospital, London. He entered the war in France on 7th October 1914 with the 21st Field Ambulance. He was mentioned in French's despatch of 30th November 1915 and was awarded the Military Cross "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He tended the wounded continuously for three days and nights under heavy fire, displaying great courage and determination. He has done fine work throughout the campaign." He was awarded the Bar "Though his dressing station was blown up by shell fire, and transferred to another place was again shelled, he steadily continued his work. He gallantly made several journeys to the regimental aid post under extremely heavy fire, and located and disposed of all casualties collected there. His zeal, courage and untiring energy were beyond all praise." Edmund worked as a General Practioner in a town called Wairoa in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand after the war.
