Other Information:

William was educated at Belfast and at Dublin, taking the diplomas of L.R.C.S.I. and L.R.C.P.I., he qualified in 1909. He had held appointments at the Down District Asylum and at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast, and was also senior assistant medical officer at the Beckett-street Infirmary, Leeds. He joined the Special Reserve of the R.A.M.C. before the war, attaining the rank of captain on 13th July 1914. William entered the war in France on 18th August 1914 with the 14th Field Ambulance. The unit had collected wounded at Le Cateau, when the dressing station came under shellfire and needed to move. There were only two ambulance wagons available so as many wounded as possible were crammed into these, and William, along with Major Brunskill [the A.D.M.S.], Capt Kelly and 37 O/Rs stayed to look after the remaining forty wounded - these were all captured and taken prisoner of war. He was released in June 1915, and was some time later posted to the Mediterranean Force, where he contracted enteric fever and died at Alexandria. His MIC states he died at sea. William was the son of Hugh and Lizzie Crymble of Ballee, Downpatrick, Co. Down
