Percy was educated at Manchester Grammar School and Edinburgh University - entering in 1913 as a student of Arts, he was still studying and was a temporary clerk when he enlisted on 27th October 1915. He was 27 years and 4 months old, and was living at 4 Lyne Grove, Urmston, Manchester at the time. He joined at Aldershot on the 29th and was posted to "X" Coy. He embarked at Southampton on 31st December 1915, then disembarking at Rouen the next day, entered the war in France on 1st January 1916. On the 5th, he was posted to joined the 2nd Field Ambulance in the field, and served with them until 19th May 1916, when he was transferred to serve with the 113th Field Ambulance. Percy was transferred again on 6th June 1916 to serve with the 38th Field Ambulance, but on 28th September 1916 was admitted into the 42nd Field Ambulance suffering with an inflamed stomach. He was transferred to 37 Casualty Clearing Station, and then onto No 6 Stationary Hospital and No 7 Convalescent Depot in Boulogne, where he stayed until he recovered. On 22nd October 1916 he joined Base Details at Rouen. He was then posted to serve with No 44 Casualty Clearing Station, in the field. Percy served with this unit until 7th July 1917, when he was posted to 9 Casualty Clearing Station and left France for Italy. He was serving with this unit when he was killed. He was the son of James William and Mary Wise of the same address as above.
