Other Information:

Herbert enlisted on 15th January 1902. He was 18 years and 1 month old at the time. From 4th October 1902 to 12th May 1906 he was stationed in Malta. He then served in the UK until he was mobilized at the outbreak of war. He entered the war in France on 19th August 1914 with the 2nd Field Ambulance. On 21st February 1915 he gained promoted the rank of Staff Sergeant. On 9th March 1914 he was evacuated to No 4 Casualty Clearing Station suffering from Scarlet Fever, where he stayed until 22nd April when he was sent to No 1 Convalescent Depot. On 28th April he was posted to serve with the Lahore British General Hospital from Base Details. On 6th June 1915 he was transferred to serve with No 12 Army Medical Stores. On 26th July 1917 he was posted to serve with the14th Field Ambulance but was transferred to the 15th Field Ambulance the next day. On 1st December 1917, along with the unit, he left France to serve with the Italian Expeditionary Force. On 2nd April 1918 he was admitted into the hospital of the 13th Field Ambulance suffering with hemiplegia. He was evacuated to No 9 Casualty Clearing Station on the 2nd April, then on the 4th was evacuated again to No 29 Stationary Hospital, via No 31 Ambulance Train On 20th April 1918 he was transferred to the 51st Casualty Clearing Station, then he returned to the Western Front where he was admitted into No 81 General Hospital on the 30th April. On 17th May 1918 he was evacuated back to the UK. He was discharged �No longer physically fit for war service on 18th December 1918.
