George enlisted on 17th January 1906. He was 28 years old, and a clerk by trade working for Prudential Insurance. He had previously served in Sierra Leone. He entered the war in France on 19th August 1914 with the 2nd Field Ambulance. On 23rd November 1914 he was granted leave to England. At the end of the war he was serving with the 45th Field Ambulance.
