Other Information:

Edward joined the R.A.M.C. in 1886 and served in the ranks until 1900, when he became a Warrant Officer. During this time he served in Malta, from 1891-1896 and South Africa, from 19000-1902 - gaining the Queen's South African Medal & 4 Clasps and the King's South African Medal & 2 Clasps. On 4th January 1913 he gained the rank of Quartermaster & Honorary Lieutenant. He entered the war in France on 15th August 1914. Edward gained promotion to Hon. Captain on 18th February 1915 and Hon. Major on 3rd June 1917 - both promotions were for services in the field. (Information source: Medical Officers in the British Army 1616-1960). Edward married Lillian Rose Williams in Malta in 1895, and they had one son, John Herbert Wellington Buckley (1897 - 1919). John went to a military academy and served as a cadet with the Royal Garrison Artillery. He died March 1919. Edward was the son of Captain John H Buckley A.M.S., who served with the Army Hospital Corps. [Information kindly provided by Edward's family]
