Other Information:Walter lived in Norwich. He entered the war in France on the 25th July 1915. He was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal "For conspicuous gallantly and devotion to duty. When two loaded ambulance cars were set on fire by enemy shelling, he at once went to the spot, started the engine of another car which was in immediate danger, and moved it to a place of safety, and undoubtedly saved the wounded in the car. Later, when an advanced dressing station was shelled, and the removal of the wounded held up, he at once rendered assistance, though severely wounded, and dressed cases in the open. remaining there, under fire, till all had been attended to. He showed great courage and devotion to duty."
