Vincent enlisted in the R.A.M.C. on 14th September 1915. He was 19 years old; was a student, gaining the London Matriculation and Central Welsh Board Senior Exams; and was living at 19 Victoria Park Road, East Cardiff at the time. He embarked at Southampton on 20th November 1915 with the 90th Field Ambulance, then disembarking at Havre the next day, entered the war in France on 21st November 1915. On 17th January 1916 he was admitted into his unit suffering from a fractured radius. He was evacuated back to No 10 General Hospital, and then back to the UK. On 17th September 1917, after recovering, he was transferred to No 19 Coy in Blackpool. On 4th August 1917 he was posted to No 70 Reinforcements and sent back to France the next day. He disembarked at Boulogne on 5th August 1917, then was sent to join the Cyclist Base Depot in Rouen, arriving on the 7th. He was then posted to serve with the 2nd Field Ambulance. He was reported missing on 18th April 1918, believed killed. A statement made by Capt D MacIntyre was recorded �On the 18th April 1918, I was conducting a party of Twelve Stretcher Bearers up to the Line, one of whom was the above-named man. A Barrage dropped on the party as we were crossing the Canal at Gorre, killing two and wounding five. Pte Edwards is missing and it is believed that he was killed, and his body blown into the canal by the shell fire.� He was the son of Evan and Jeanette Edwards of "Ty Gwyn", Victoria Park Road East, Cardiff.
