Other Information:William was 6 foot 2 inches tall. On joining up he was given the choice of joining the Welsh Guards, or the RAMC. He entered the war in France on 23rd November 1915, and spent the war to 1918 on the Western Front but on occasions he was invalided out for a short period, trench fever ( a stay in Hospital at St Valery Sur Somme) and gas attack Nieuport, Belgium (where he lay in the snow for a few days and woke up hearing a medical officer discussing the amputation of his leg- which served him very well until his death at 94 years old). He then went onto the Rhine near Bonn ( at Hannover am Rhein) through 1919. William who was primarily a Welsh speaker had a career in the Labour Exchanges throughout Wales until his retirement in the 1960's in Mold, Flintshire. He was married to Laura Williams ( in photo) farmer's daughter and teacher from Killins Farm near Connahs Quay.
