Other Information:Charles attested at Leeds on the 5th July 1889, at the age of 19 years. He left service on the 4th July 1907 with the rank of Staff Sargent, his discharge papers state that he was mentioned in dispatches for his actions during The South Afrian War 1899 - 1902. He re-enlisted to serve in WW1 under the rank of Quarter Master and Lieutenant, and gained promotion during his service in the Great War. Charles entered the war in France on the 29th September 1915.
