Other Information:Hugh had previously served for eight years with the Black Watch. He enlisted on 14th September 1914. He was 42 years old, a Labourer by trade, and living in Midlothian at the time. He embarked at Southampton on 20th May - disembarking at Havre he entered the war in France on 21st May 1915. (Service record) He was killed during the Battle of Flers-Courcelette, knocked down by shell fire whilst bearing. Other R.A.M.C. also lost during this battle were Ayre, Bealch, W. Huntington, and P.
