Britton enlisted on 7th September 1915. He was 19 years and 5 months old and was a farm labourer by trade. He embarked at Southampton on 17th November with the 100th Field Ambulance, then disembarking the next day - entered the war in France on 18th November 1915. On 6th January 1916 he was admitted into No 33 Casualty Clearing Station suffering with cerebrospinal meningitis. He died at 12.30 a.m. on the 10th in No 7 General Hospital. He was the son of George and Anna Bishop of Dalwood, Axminster.
