Ernest was educated in Dundee then became a Book Keeper by trade. He enlisted into the R.A.M.C. on 9th August 1915, being 26 years and 2 days old, and was living at 27 Viewpoint Avenue, Dennistoun, Glasgow at the time. He joined at Sheffield on the 13th, and was posted to “S” Coy. On 24th September, he was posted to serve with the 102nd Field Ambulance. Ernest was appointed acting Corporal on 8th October 1915, then was promoted to Corporal on 22nd November. He embarked at Southampton with his unit on 9th January 1916, then disembarking the next day at Havre, entered war in France on 10th January 1916. He was wounded near Albert on 26th June 1916, receiving a gun shot wound to his right arm and was evacuated home via 36 Casualty Clearing Station, No 9 General Hospital, and the Hospital Ship “Salta”. After he recovered, he joined reinforcements for the Indian Expeditionary Force in Mesopotamia. He embarked at Devonport on the 6th December 1916, then on 21st January 1917 was posted to serve with the 57th River Sick Convoy Unit, in the field, joining them on the 8th February. On 21st May 1917 he was posted for duty at No 10 Sanitary Section at Kurnah. Ernest was admitted into hospital on 5th July 1917. He fell dangerously ill on the 10th suffering with Malaria. He died at No 3 British General Hospital from heat stroke and was buried in the Military Cemetery, Makina. He was the only son of Thomas and Agnes Meek (daughter of William Crichton, Colour-Serjeant of the 2nd Bn. (93rd Foot) Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders) Pearson of 299 Easter Road, Leith, Edinburgh; and the husband of Elizabeth Margaret Forbes (daughter of Alex Ferrier) Pearson of Newmills, Resolis, Invergordon, Ross-shire - married at Glasgow on 16th March 1915.
