Born 7th June 1885 at Upleatham near Redcar. Appointed Middlesbrough Police 20/6/1908 and by the Watch Committee 25/6/1908 as PC 108. Height 5 11 and a quarter . 25/6/1908 probation period of 6 months. 17/12/1908 appointment confirmed as 4th class PC. 23/12/1909 2nd class PC. 21/12/1911 1st class PC. 1/7/1914 1st Service class. 28/4/1915 resigned to join HMF. 23/11/1916 Chief Constable reported to the WC that Sgt Clarke, RAMC has been awarded the MM for conspicuous bravery in the field. After the war 14/10/1919 returned to the force. 19/2/1920 promoted to Sergeant 20 on probation of twelve months. [Information researched and provided by John Grainger]
