Other Information:William enlisted on 27th October 1915. He was 19 years old and an Ironmonger by trade. On 31st December 1915 he embarked at Southampton - then disembarking at Rouen the next day, he entered the war in France on 1st January 1916, as part of a team of reinforcements. On the 5th January, he was posted to serve with the 49th Field Ambulance, in the field. William received a gunshot wound to his chest on 23rd March 1917. He was admitted into 48th Field Ambulance before being transferred to No 3 Casualty Clearing Station, where he stayed until the 27th, when he was transferred to No 3 Canadian General Hospital. On 6th July he was transferred to England on the Hospital Ship 'St Dennis" from Boulogne. He died in Naunton Park Auxiliary hospital, Cheltenham. William was the son of William and Grace Lyttle of Scotch Street, Downpatrick.
