Other Information:

John enlisted in the R.A.M.C. on 22nd January 1913. He was 18 years and 8 months old, a brick maker by trade, and living at 26 Ernest Street, Rhyl, North Wales at the time. Embarking at Southampton on 13th August 1914 with Sanitary Section No 1, he entered the war at Havre, France the next day. On 16th August, John became attached to the A.D.M.S. at No 2 Base, Nantes -continuing to serve in this position he was posted to No 3 Advanced Depot Medical Stores, in the field, on 26th November but was admitted into hospital and then transferred back to England on 31st December, the same year. He returned to France on the 10th June 1915, embarking again at Southampton, he disembarked in Havre the next day. On 23rd February 1916, he joined the 13th Field Ambulance for duty in the field. He was admitted into this unit and others on several occasions suffering from Scabies and various injuries. On 1st December 1917, he and his unit entrained in France for Italy, detraining there on the 7th December. He served the rest of the war in Italy, entraining on the 3rd April 1918 he returned to France on the 8th April 1918. On the 27th March 1919 to 3rd April 1919, John was admitted into an isolation hospital at Aldershot suffering from with German Measles. He was transferred to Section “B” reserve and continued to serve under the service number 7247051.
