Other Information:Harold arrived in France on the 8th May 1915 but appears to have been transferred quickly to serve in Gallipoli that year. Harold's obituary is recorded in the Polytechnic Magazine dated October 1918, it reads "It is with deep regret we have to record the death of Pte Harold John West, of the Sanitary Section. R.A.M.C. West tried to join the Poly Comapny in the first months of the war, but was refused, owing to his right eye being nearly blind. He then joined the RAMC in January, 1915, went to the Dardanelles in July, 1915, and was at Sulva until the evacuation. From the Dardanelles, he went to Egypt, and thence was transferred to France in the spring of 1917. Here he continued his service until he met his death in a railway accident at Bruary [Pas de Calais], whilst on duty, on August 1st, 1918, aged 23 years."
