Other Information:

Alfred entered the war in France on 16th August 1914, as part of the Regimental Medical Officer's team for the 15th Hussars. He was serving with the 9th Cavalry Field Ambulance when he was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal "When enemy aircraft inflicted severe casualties on his unit at night and exploded a large ammunition dump close by, he showed great energy and devotion to duty in collecting a party and extricating and removing wounded while all the time exposed to explosions from the dump and some more bombing from aircraft. His example of cool courage caused all the wounded to be safely removed."
