Other Information:

William enlisted into the Medical Staff Corps on 12th March 1894. He was 20 years and 10 months old, and was a Labourer by trade. He saw previous service in various locations, including Malta, Crete and Soudan, during which time he was appointed to the rank of Lance Corporal on 28th November 1900, then gained promotion to the rank of Corporal on 15th November 1911. He entered the war in France on 18th August 1914, as part of the Regimental Medical Officer's team for the 5th Lancers. He gained further promotion to the rank of Serjeant on 15th March 1915. He was discharged from the Colours on 11th March 1916.
