Other Information:Herbert was educated at Kingswood School, Bath and Edinbourgh University - entering as a student of medicine in 1902, he graduated M.B., Ch.B. in 1908. He went into practice at Stoke, Rochester, where he held the appointment of superintendent of the Hoo Isolation Hospital. He joined the R.A.M.C. as a temporary lieutenant on 17th April 1915 and was promoted to Temporary Captain after a years service. He was awarded the Military Cross "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Under intense hostile bombardment he dashed out of a cellar, where he was sheltering, and ran across the open to attend to two men who had been wounded in a dugout. After attending to them, he noticed that the house he had just left was hit, whereupon he ran back again through heavy shell fire to see if his services were required. He displayed splendid gallantry and total disregard of his personal safety." Herbert was accidently killed in a fire which started around 5-6 a.m. close to the area where he was sleeping. He was the son of the Rev. Ralph M and Mrs Spoor; and the husband of Mary Ann Maria Spoor of Vine House, Middle Stoke, Rochester.
