Other Information:

Joseph enlisted on 13th June 1904. He was 18 years old, and was a Warehouse Porter by trade. On 1st July 1911 he was appointed Lance Corporal. He then gained promoted to the rank of Corporal on 1st October 1912. He entered the war in France on 9th September 1914 as part of the Regimental Medical Officer's team for the 1st Bn. East Yorkshire Regiment. On 1st December 1914 he was admitted into hospital, then by the 19th March 1915 he was serving with No 15 Stationary Hospital. He transferred to serve with No 18 Stationary Hospital on 26th September 1915. He gained further promoted to the rank of Serjeant on 12th March 1916. On 3rd January 1917 he disembarked in Salonika along with the whole unit. He embarked to return to the UK on 8th April 1919. He continued to serve after the war under the service number 200983, disembarking in Basra on 29th March 1920. On 15th April 1920, whilst serving with No 3 British General Hospital, Basra, he was severely injured after falling asleep with a lighted cigarette in his mouth. He was admitted into his unit suffering severe injuries to the interior part of his neck, the right side of his thorax and abdomen, and the right axilla and shoulder, as well as other minor injuries. He died from heart failure following his injuries on 30th April 1920. He was the son of William Cove of 28 Coopers Road, Old Kent Road, London.
