Other Information:James enlisted on 22nd July 1912. He was 21 years old, and was an Indoor Footman by trade. He entered the war in France on 13th August 1914, as part of the Regimental Medical Officer's team for the 1st Bn. Gordon Highlanders. On 11th December 1914 he was posted for duty with the 8th Field Ambulance. He was wounded in action (gas) on 3rd May 1917 and admitted into the 7th Field Ambulance, who evacuated him back to No 41 Casualty Clearing Station. The following day he was evacuated to No 6 Red Cross Hospital in Etaples where he stayed until 11th May when he was evacuated to England via hospital ship. James thereafter suffered from bronchitis after being gassed. On 8th February 1918 he was appointed acting lance corporal (unpaid). He was posted to No 35 Coy in Blackpool for duty on 15th December 1918. He has been serving with No 10 Coy when he was transferred to section "B" Army Reserve on demobilization on 15th July 1919.
