Other Information:

Edward received his medical education at St Bartholomew's Hospital, qualifying M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. in 1913. He joined the Medical Services at the rank of Lieutenant on 31st July 1914, then entered the war in France, attached to the 2nd Bn. Royal Irish Fusiliers as their medical officer, on 27th August 1914. He gained promotion to the rank of Captain on 30th March 1915, but on 15th April 1915, was wounded at Lillebeke and was invalided back to the UK. The wound resulted in Edward losing sight of his left eye. From 1917-1920, he served in Palestine, then after the war went onto Egypt from 1920-1922. On 31st July 1926 he gained promotion to the rank of Major, and became a specialist in Anaesthetics in 1927. Edward then served in India as an Anaesthetist at the Connaught Military Hospital, Poona from 1927-1933, and from 1933-1935, served as an Anaesthetist at the Queen Alexandra Military Hospital, Millbank.
