Other Information:Thomas enlisted into the West Yorkshire Regiment on 12th January 1893. He was 18 years and 6 month old. On 6th October 1993 he transferred to MSC. He served in Malta from 29th September 1895 to 11th January 1999. He was shortly after granted gratuity. On 31st December 1902 he rejoined the Colours and joined the R.A.M.C. He served for a while in Woolwich. On 1st July 1906 he was appointed Lance Corporal, gaining promotion to Corporal on 1st January 1908. On 18th January 1913 he was permitted to continue in the service beyond 21 years. He then served with 12 Coy. Thomas entered the war in France on 15th August 1914 as part of the medical team attached to the 1st Bn. Coldstream Guards. On 20th January 1915 he gained promoted to Serjeant. He transferred from the BEF to Salonika, and whilst there was appointed (with pay) acting Serjeant Major from 25th August 1916 to 4th September 1916 (Inclusive); and again from 25th November 1916 to 10th December 1916 (unpaid); and again from 9th January 1917 (with pay). He reverted to the permanent rank of Serjeant on 19th October 1917. He was awarded the MSM for devotion to duty in Salonika. On 7th June 1918 he was permitted to draw his pension whilst still serving. Thomas died on 27th May 1961 at Maurice House, Canterbury Road, Westgate-on-Sea, aged 85 years old.
