George received his medical education at the London Hospital, qualifying M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. and D.P.H. in 1904 and D.P.H. 1922. He joined the Medical Services at the rank of Lieutenant on 30th July 1904, then served in Jamaica from 1906 to 1909. During that time, on 30th January 1908, he received promotion to the rank of Captain. Between the years 1909 to 1910 and 1911 to 1912, he served in West Africa. At the outbreak of war he was serving in the UK attached to the Eastern Command. George entered the war in France on 14th August 1914 as the Medical Officer for the 1st Bn. Coldstream Guards. He was wounded in action on 9th September when the road he was traveling on was shelled. He was picked up by the 3rd Cavalry Field Ambulance and evacuated back to the UK, where he became a patient in King Edward VI Hospital for Officers, under Mr Sheen. He gained promotion to Major on 1st July 1915, then returned to France in 1916 and again in 1918 to 1919. During which time he served as acting Lieutenant Colonel from 24th November 1918 to 30 March 1919 and from 20th July to 19th November 1920. In 1919, he went to Egypt and remained their until 1922, when he went to Constantinople in 1922 until 1923. On 2nd April 1923 he retired on pay, due to ill health, and was granted the full rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
