Frederick enlisted on 27th August 1914, but had already served many years with the R.A.M.C. He was 41 years old and a Labourer by trade. He embarked at Southampton on 8th July 1915, then disembarking the next day at Rouen, entered the war in France on 9th July 1915. He was posted to serve with 2 Motor Ambulance Convoy, in the field, on the 12th. On 21st November 1915 he gained the rank of acting Corporal, with pay. He caught influenza in November 1916 and was evacuated to No 2 Casualty Clearing Station then back to the base area. After recovering, on 11th December 1916 he was transferred to serve with No 6 General Hospital. He served as a cook and general duties. He gained the full rank of Corporal on 27th August 1917. Frederick was taken ill again on 28th June 1919. He was evacuated back to the UK via No 1 Stationary Hospital, and was discharged as ‘No longer physically fit for war service on 9th August 1919. The CWGC have him commemorated under the surname Landeryou.
