Other Information:William enlisted on 25th October 1915. He was 19 years and 10 months old; was an apprentice joiner by trade; and was living at 1 Montreal Street, Carlisle at the time. Two days later he joined at Aldershot, and was subsequently posted to serve with 137th Field Ambulance. On 4th February 1916 he was stationed in Malta, where he travelled to Alexandria to join Base Depot. On the 14th March 1916 he was posted to serve on the hospital ship “Dongola”, and served there until the 26th April, when he transferred to the hospital ship “Galeka”. He was onboard the hospital ship "Galika" when the ship was sunk by a mine explosion near the Havre at 6 a.m. on 28th September 1916. He was reported as missing until 22nd January 1917 when it was recorded that he had “Drowned at Sea near Le Havre, France.” William was the son of Annie M Wilson of 197 Blackwell Road, Carlisle, and the late William Brownrigg Wilson.
