Other Information:Arthur received his medical training at the London Hospital, qualifying M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. in 1891. He joined the Medical Services as Surgeon Lieutenant on 29th January 1894, becoming Captain of the R.A.M.C. on 29th January 1897. He then served with No. 1 General Hospital during the Tirah Expedition of 1897-1898. On 29th October 1905 he gained promotion to Major. When war broke out Arthur was serving in Dublin. On the 11th August 1914, he formed the 16th Field Ambulance in Cork, and becoming their Commanding Officer entered the war in France with them on 12th September 1914. The War Diary of the unit on 2nd April 1915 states that Major Fox had been promoted to Lieutenant Colonel (1/3/1915) and was posted away. He returned to England on 8th March 1916. On 15th April 1917 H.M.T. “Arcadian”, a former Royal Mail Steam Packet liner converted in WW1 for troop carrying, was torpedoed by German Submarine U C74 at 36.50 N, 24.50 E in the Cycladic Islands in the Aegean Sea en route from Salonika to Alexandria. Of the reinforcements she was carrying, 19 Army Officers and 214 other ranks lost their lives – Arthur was one of them. He was the son of Sarah Edith Fox of 95 Dorset Road, Bexhill, Sussex, and the late Lt/Col W S Fox, I.M.S.
