Henry was educated at Edinburgh University, joining in 1878 he qualified L.R.C.S. in 1883, then L.R.C.P. in 1884. He later qualified L.D.S. in 1896, then went into practice at Carnforth, Lancashire. In August 1914 he was the Medical Officer of H.M.S. Transport “Pancras”, then he took up a temporary commission at the rank of Lieutenant in the R.A.M.C. in 1915. He was promoted to the rank of Captain after a year’s service. Henry was onboard the hospital ship “Salta” when it struck a mine and sank half a mile north of the Whistle Bouy, Havre, on 10th April 1917. He was reported as being lost as sea but his body was later recovered and is believed to now lie in Holland.
