Other Information:William attested on 2nd March 1916 and called up for service on 9th August 1917. He was 22 years and 6 months old, a Shop Assistant by trade and living at 52 North Street, Shrewsbury at the time. He enlisted into the R.A.M.C. and was posted to 'S' Coy on 11th August 1917. On 25th February 1918 he embarked on H.M.H.S. 'Glenart Castle' and was reported missing, believed drowned on 26th after the hospital ship was torpedoed. His death was accepted by the War Office on lapse of time.
William was the son of Albert and Annie Smith; and the husband of Alice Smith of 91 Stockfield Road, Oldham, Lancs.
