John enlisted on 8th December 1915, he was 19 years and 4 months old, a wiredrawer by trade, and living at 40 Plumpton Street, Warrington at the time. On 9th August 1917, he was mobilized and posted to 'R' Coy the next day. On 25th February 1918 he embarked on H.M.H.S. 'Glenart Castle' and was reported missing, believed drowned on 26th after the hospital ship was torpedoed. His death was accepted by the War Office on lapse of time. John was the son of Thomas and Jane Wright of 40 Plumpton Street, Warrington; and the husband of Ethel Wright of 31 Plumpton Street, Warrington.
