Other Information:Digby was educated at Mountjoy College, Dublin and at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, obtaining the conjoint Irish diplomas in 1912. Shortly afterwards he was appointed house surgeon to Bottle Borough Hospital, where, it is recorded, his personal qualities made him a popular colleague. After this preparation for general service in 1913 he settled down at Orrell Park, Liverpool, and had acquired a considerable practice when in 1916 he received a commission in the R.A.M.C. His Captaincy was conferred the following year. Digby entered the war in France on 17th March 1916. He lost his life while returning to duty. His commanding officer wrote "His never failing good humour and kindly disposition endeared him to all." Digby was the youngest son of John William and Elizabeth Burns of Dublin.
