Other Information:Arthur enlisted on 5th October 1915, he was 25 years and 11 months old at the time and a packer by trade. Having qualified as a ward orderly he embarked at Southampton on 3rd June 1916, disembarking at Havre he entered the war in France on 4th June 1916 with 136th Field Ambulance. On 18th October he was admitted into his unit suffering with phthisis and was evacuated down the chain, eventually being sent home to England on 30th. He was then posted to serve on the Eastern Front and was on board the Hired Transport "Transylvania", when it was proceeding to Egypt with reinforcements, and was sunk by a torpedo by the German U-boat U-63 off Cape Vado, a few kilometres south of Savona. Arthur was the son of the late James and Mary Jane Calvert; and the husband of Matilda Waters (formerly Calvert) of 9 Fletcher's Square, City Road, Hulme, Manchester.
