Other Information:Edward enlisted on 12th February 1915 and was embodied into the East Anglian Casualty Clearing Station, Territorial Force. He was 34 years old and was living at 2 Ashmere Grove, Ipswich at the time. He started his army career as a dispenser, at the rank of acting Corporal, and was promoted to Corporal on 30th July 1915, the same day he embarked on the "Royal Edward" at Devonport. He arrived at Alexandria on the 11th August, then set sail to Gallipoli the next day. Edward's body was never found and was believed to have drowned on the sinking of H.M.T. "Royal Edward" on passage from Alexandria to Gallipoli. *Edward had previously been employed by Boots (the chemist) for 35 years, serving in their Branch 94. He was remembered, with sorrow, in an in-house magazine when he went missing, feared drowned after the ‘Royal Edward’ disaster.
