Other Information:Walter enlisted on 8th August 1914 and was embodied into the 1st East Anglian Field Ambulance, T.F., under the service number 1939. He was 24 years and 10 months old at the time. On 21st August he transferred to the East Anglian Divisional Clearing Hospital and was given the service number 42. He gained promoted to Corporal on the 17th September, then from 8th March 1915 served under the rank of acting Serjeant. He gain full promotion to Serjeant on 20 July. Walter embarked on the "Royal Edward" at Devonport on 30th July 1915, then arrived at Alexandria on the 11th August. He set sail to Gallipoli the next day. His body was never found and was believed to have drowned on the sinking of H.M.T. "Royal Edward" on passage from Alexandria to Gallipoli. He was the husband of Ellen May Green of Gusham Lodge, Westfield Road, Ipswich.
