Other Information:Edward had previously served in the Royal Engineers. He re-enlisted on 18th August 1914 and was embodied into the East Anglian Casualty Clearing Station, Territorial Force. He was 42 years and 2 months old, and was a machine sawyer by trade. Edward served at Southampton Docks from the 6th September 1914 - 4th February 1915, when he returned to Ipswich. He was promoted to acting Corporal on 10th February 1915, then acting Serjeant on 8th March 1915 - gaining promotion to the full rank of Serjeant on 30th July 1915 - the day he embarked on the "Royal Edward" at Devonport. He arrived at Alexandria on the 11th August, then set sail to Gallipoli the next day. His body was never found and was believed to have drowned on the sinking of H.M.T. "Royal Edward" on passage from Alexandria to Gallipoli. Edward was the son of Samuel Chamberlain of 14 Carlton Road, Lowerstoft; and the husband of Alice Chamberlain of 4 Victoria Street, Ipswich.
