Ernest embarked on the "Royal Edward" at Devonport on 30th July 1915 as part of a draft for the 1/1st East Anglian Field Ambulance, then arrived in Egypt on 11th August. His body was never found and was believed to have drowned on the sinking of H.M.T. "Royal Edward" on passage from Alexandria to Gallipoli. Ernest was the son of Mr and Mrs George Bloomfield of 253 Bramford Road, Ipswich.
